Doctor Ludvig Maxis



Doctor Ludvig Maxis was a scientist who was part of the project known as "The Giant" which took place at Der Riese. You can find out about him when you activate hidden radios. His team were possibly responsible for creating the Hellhounds and Zombies. He was a member of Group 935.

Doctor Maxis worked with his assistant, Edward at the Der Riese facility near Breslau. He worked on creating Zombies and Teleportation Devices. It is possible that Maxis was in charge of the whole operation, but it is otherwise unknown who actually was. One of the things Maxis would do was to perform experiments and tests, though many of these failed.

As first mentioned in a radio message in Shi No Numa, an American says his name but he gets cut off by static so that many people thought his name was just "Doctor Max".

His name is revealed to be Ludvig shown through a hidden card that says "Ludvig Maxis M.D."
Presumed Death

Doctor Maxis was working on an experiment with Edward that involved his daughter's dog called Fluffy. He attempted to teleport Fluffy, but when he did, the plan failed. Fluffy was teleported, but not to the mainframe. She teleported back inside the Teleporter from an electrical force, most probably the ball of electricity players see Hellhounds spawn from. Maxis demanded the door to be opened, but Edward advised him not to. When they opened the door, Fluffy had transformed into a Hellhound. Samantha came running through, asking her daddy what he had done with her dog. The Hellhound began to try and attack, and began to destroy the room. This caused chaos, and as Maxis tried to calm his daughter down. Edward exited and locked the door. Maxis told him to open it, but Edward disobeyed him and laughed mainiacly as the power was turned on. It is presumed Maxis and Samantha were killed. Further evidence suggesting he is dead are some of Richtofen's quotes such as "Maxis would've been proud" and "I wish Doctor Maxis were here to see this."

In the left hallway of Der Riese, there are pictures of Zombies, Hellhounds, and a blackboard. There is writing on it saying "levels 5-8 must survive." One of these levels is when Hellhounds first appear, suggesting that it is referring to them. Also, "Edward, I know it was you" is also written on it. This could have been written by Maxis or maybe by the ghost of Samantha. This suggests that Edward had always planned to set the Zombies loose, instead of just testing on them. It is also possible that Edward was trying to prevent Dr. Maxis from creating the Zombies, to prevent an outbreak.

Samantha

Samantha Maxis is the only female in the game other than Sophia, Doctor Maxis' possible secretary. She is heard in two radio messages on Der Riese and is the daughter of Doctor Maxis. By the sound of the message, Samantha, along with her father, is killed by an escaping Hellhound (formerly Samantha's pet dog Fluffy), after Maxis' assistant (Edward) locks them both in the room with it.

It is possible that Samantha is in some way connected to the child-like voices heard throughout the Nazi Zombies series. If she was killed by the hellhounds, then it could be possible she haunts the factory, which could explain the Fly Trap. In Verruckt, Shi No Numa and Der Riese, sometimes you can hear the zombies say "Sam". This may be a reference to Samantha and her death.
Items Possibly Related

The Teddy Bear from the Mystery Box

When the Teddy bear appears in the mystery box, a young child's laugh is heard (as well as a more demonic one) and the overvoice of the game says 'Bye bye'. It is very possible that the laugh heard when you get the teddy bear out of the mystery box, belongs to Samantha. In one radio message it is revealed that Samantha and Dr. Maxis were trapped inside a teleporter with Fluffy, Samantha's dog, after Dr. Maxis tried to teleport Fluffy. It is possible that Samantha then started haunting the zombie/Hellhound incidents as a result of this. It may be possible that Samantha had a teddy bear when she was killed by a Hellhound, when Edward locked her in with it, and now she uses her teddy as a conduit between her world and ours. Also, it is possible that she controls the Hellhounds because the first hellhound was her dog Fluffy.

The Monkey Bomb

The Monkey Bomb used to be her toy because if you throw the monkey bomb in the furnace, it will start screaming and then explode. After the explosion a girl's voice, possibly Samantha's due to the voice's German accent, will say "Why are you so cruel to Mister Monkey? Mister monkey just wants to play!" On rare occasions you will hear the monkey bomb say "You're not Sam!" Then scream as you throw him, Instead of his usual "Ouch and Oof" when he bounces off the ground, this further proves that Samantha at least knew the monkey and possibly made it a weapon. The fact that it knows who Samantha is could means that it's artificially intelligent. However, it's more likely possessed.

Should the voice really come from Samantha, one can come to the conclusion that she liked to play games, most likely with her toys. One example of this is the Hide and Seek challenge that starts after the Fly Trap is activated. The Teddy Bears and Monkey Bomb in said challenge further prove that Sam owned them. It is also possible that she has control over the Hellhounds/Zombies, and that the entire incident is just a big game to her. If that is the case then she could be controlling the mystery box.


Edward


Edward was Dr. Maxis' assistant at Der Riese. He can be heard taking oders from and talking to Dr Maxis on several of the radio transmissions. In one of these transmissions, he (presumably) kills Dr. Maxis and his daughter Samantha by locking them in a room with a hell hound.

Maxis: Quiet you fool! Test Number 6 is a failure, but the experiments have caused some kind of electrical warp to energize the chamber. Well! Open the door!

Maxis: Open the door! NOW! *door opens* *hellhound noise*

Samantha: Daddy, what are you doing to Fluffy?

Maxis: Dammit Samantha, I told you never to come in here! Edward get her out of here.

Edward: Yes, doctor. *hellhound noise* *Samantha screams*

Samantha: What's wrong with her? Daddy! What did you do!? Fluffy!

Maxis: Samantha! Come back here! SAMANTHA! Stop her! *hellhound growls*

Maxis: Easy, come here Samantha. Good girl Fluffy! *hellhound growls*

Maxis: Gently Samantha. That's not Fluffy anymore. We must get out of here. *Door closes* What?! Edward! what are you doing?! Open the door! Edward! OPEN THIS DOOR NOW!!! *banging* *hellhound screaming*

Samantha (crying): Daddy! I'm scared! *unintelligible*

Maxis: Stay by me Samantha!

Edward: Goodbye, Doctor Maxis. *electricity* *laughter*


Identity of Edward



Richtofen is widely speculated to be Edward. This theory is strengthened with these facts:


* One of Richtofen's quotes is "Ed wants your head!".


* He appears to have known Dr Maxis, as one of his quotes is "If only Maxis were here".


* In the recordings, his voice is very similar to Edward's. In fact, his voice in the recordings is by the same person who voices Richtofen.


* On one of the two chalkboards in the Animal Testing Room, you will see the quote " Edward, I know it was you!"


* The secret note to "kill Maxis" (which Edward does) that is found under a grate in Der Riese is written in an Illuminati code, and Richtofen often makes quotes about being tied to the Illuminati.



However, there are those who do not think there is enough evidence to be certain that Edward and Richtofen are the same, and as it stands there is no direct evidence of them being the same person.


Fluffy


Fluffy has a very brief mention in the Nazi Zombie game mode. Fluffy the dog had belonged to Samantha, the daughter of Dr. Maxis and is mentioned in Der Riese by two of the radios. One radio broadcast hears Dr. Maxis giving Fluffy to Samantha he tells her that she is pregnant and is expecting puppies, Samantha asks if she can keep one, Dr. Maxis says that it will be taken one step at a time. The plan seems to fall to pieces soon afterwards, as Fluffy is secretly killed (unknown to Samantha) in an experiment by Edward and Maxis.
