March 3, 2010 - Activision confirmed to IGN this morning the new Call of Duty title slated for release in 2011 is not the same title that will be developed by the newly formed studio Sledgehammer Games.

Confusion arose yesterday afternoon during the announcement which seemed to imply there were two separate titles in development: a new title by Sledgehammer Games and another title by an unknown developer for 2011.

While little details are known about Sledgehammer Games' Call of Duty project, according to the announcement it will "extend the franchise into the action-adventure genre." Activision also confirmed yesterday that Treyarch is developing the next Call of Duty title set for release later this year.

Update: Activision has issued a correction to their previous comments and apologizes for the confusion. The Sledgehammer Games title is not the same 2011 Call of Duty title previously announced. There are two separate titles. The story has been updated to reflect that.

I'm so confused as you are right now.So what they are trying to tell us is that there are going to be 2 more Cod Titles?1 developed by Treyarch and another one developed by Sledgehammer?

Sludgehammer games? Is that fbaised on the people fired from Infinity Ward?
Prehaps on CoD title will be in early 2011 and the other in late 2011.
This is HUGE but I've never heard of a Sludgehammer Games.

Maybe they are working to bring out a zombies only game, and then the regular call of duty ?????

Sledgehammer is another development studio recently hired by Activision.Rumors are that they are as good as Infinity Ward and Treyarch combined.I need to see proof of that if they make a Cod Title.

Treyarch is going to have a game come out this year.
Then Sledgehammer is going to release theirs next year.
Then..I don't know what going to happen to IW since they got the shizzoit knocked out of them..earlier this week.

sledgehammer is new- never made a game before. so, we cant decide if they are "good" or not.

treyarch COD Vietnam - Nov. 2010
Asian marketed MMO -?
Sledgehammer Zombies/single player only game- Q. 2-3 2011
Infinity ward COD 8- Nov. 2012

now, with the IW leaders being fired, the state of that studio is in question. they are contracted with Activision untill 2010. they will follow up with MW2 DLC, then depart Activision for a new publisher/project; as per rumors.

all in All, Activision seems to want to be milking the teet of COD- just like guitar hero.

You can milk guitar hero, dis the PS3, and horde your money, but firing IW is were I draw the line!
We all know that after the outberst Activison will drop IW like a dead goose, leaving sludgehammer to pick up the tab, and that is BS! It's time for a rable!

they think their firing was to avoid a payment by activision
they want them to pay the money, and also to get the rights to the modern warfare series back. if they win, they MW games could live on, but without the COD name.

Well i hope that treyarch is the one to branch of and make zombies. They created it and they should get the rep for it

not to say sledgehammer could have had the zombie developers from treyarch switch to their studio,
to develop this zombie game

Lol, who doesn't spend more than $180 a year on games? I've already gotten 3 games this year and I plan on getting at least another 10 games, if not more.
